To locate short stories & criticism use Gale

1. Search Only SSC

2. Search authors name as “Named Author.”

3. If no results, then include CLC.

4. Read through the Introduction and the Works section to learn about short stories and where they are published.

5. Click on Titles Discussed Blue Link to find essays on particular short stories. Skim through the essays looking for common themes and styles.

6. Follow these steps on all the articles with your author's name as the title.

To locate short stories & criticism use Gale Literature Resource Center

1. Click Gale Literary Index (located on right of database)
2. Click on Author Search
3. Type author's name
4. Search for "short story" titles with lots of criticism (short story titles have "quotation marks" around them)
5. Highlight short story title and list of criticism
6. Paste to word document
7. Print after locating a minimum of 3 short stories
8. Check to see what critical sources Hempfield Library has. Use white grid handout for list of resources at Hempfield High School Library

To locate Short Stories:

1. Destiny OPAC
Search by author's name in quotation marks and the phrase short stories in quotation marks. ("john steinbeck" "short stories") and/or by short story title. If no table of contents is listed in details of book you may need to get the book and look at the table of contents for the short story title.

2. Wilson ****Power Library****

o Wilson’s Short Story Index

§ Click on POWER Library icon.

§ Click on Biography Reference Bank

§ Click on "Open Database Selection Area"

§ Choose only Short Story Index to search in.

§ Search your author by Personal Author.

§ All short stories by your author will be listed along with where it was published.

§ Use this information to locate your short story.

3. EBSCO Literary Reference Center
Search your author and then click on the Short Stories Tab. Some stories will be available Full-Text.

4.REF 809.3 Short Stories for Students * also an ebook
Read about your short story. You may come across where the short story published.

5.REF 809 BLA Black Literature Criticism: Classic and Emerging Authors since 1950


6. ProQuest: Learning Literature Learning Literature
